There is no universal way of learning a foreign language. Each student chooses their own: someone is partial to the academic version of study courses, where teachers monitor your progress, while someone prefers independent language learning.

If, in order to understand the grammar of a language, one has to study the textbooks, with the vocabulary things are more fun. You can learn words by watching your favorite series with subtitles, listening to musicals, reading romance novels or detective stories in the original and even singing karaoke. At the same time, it is useful to have your own dictionary, where you need to write down the words that you encounter most often or that are the most difficult for you to remember.

The same problematic words can then be written on flash cards: on one side is the word in English, on the other – the translation into Ukrainian. Such cards should be reviewed periodically to check your progress.

Undoubtedly, in order to remember words better, you need to speak. Choose a topic – a movie you plan to see, a writer whose book you want to read, a country you dream of visiting – and tell your mother or friend about them. For each topic, you can prepare a set of flash cards that will help you focus on the main words.

By the way, a wide selection of apps for learning foreign words can be found on the Internet – download them on mobile phones or tablets and practice in your free time.

Words through emotions

And what to do if the main base is already cemented and you want more? It is known that words are best remembered through positive emotions. Therefore, we advise those who want to improve their vocabulary to get out of their comfort zone and start communicating with foreigners.

For some, this may be a simple task, but for introverts and shy people, it is much more difficult. You can first search for friends who are native speakers of English on the Internet – in social networks and various thematic forums, while someone can also try their hand at dating sites.

However, live communication is much more effective, which allows you to get rid of the fear of speaking. For example, in the online hospitality service Couch Surfing, it is possible not to “fit” a foreigner into your home, but simply to invite the traveler for a walk around the city. A great opportunity to speak English, Italian, Spanish!

In addition, foreigners in big cities often hold so-called “meetings” in pubs – to chat with their friends and get to know our friends over a cup of coffee, a glass of wine or a mug. “JIT.Academy – your online educational platform” will tell you more about such meetings later.
